Save the Traditions
Azamara is a cruise line that believes in connecting people with people, people with cultures, and people with themselves. I had the pleasure of expanding their storytelling through immersive email marketing campaigns and even moving them forward by helping name their newest ship, Azamara Onward℠.
But one of my favorite projects had to be Save the Traditions, a proactive campaign that positioned Azamara as the brand that inspires people to see the importance and urgency in saving fading traditions. By creating Azamara's own Conservation Status List, similar to existing wildlife conservation classification, we planned to categorize dying traditions across the world.
The call to action was to help keep these honored practices alive through greater awareness and donations. Scroll to the bottom to see a sample of one of the several scripts I wrote for the documentary-style spots about last tradition holders.

Kalinga Tattoos Traditions: Script for Video Spot
High up in the Cordillera Mountains
in the far rural north of the Philippines
Lies Kalinga, a hidden hillside village
Home to lush rice terraces, raging rivers, plowing water buffalo,
And the last tribal master of traditional, hand-tapped tattoos:
The 102 year-old mambabatok, Whang-od Ogga.
It’s here where this living legend keeps a 1,000 year old tradition alive.
Using the same tools passed down by her head hunter ancestors:
One citrus thorn, two bamboo sticks, charcoal, and water
Whang-od has tapped her way into history and left her mark on many.
Fearless warriors with python scales slithering down their arms,
Beautiful women with honeycombs and rice bundles on their shoulders,
Respected elders with centipedes climbing up their spines,
and now, curious wanderers from around the world who journey for days
to permanently wear the powerful symbols of the Kalinga.
Whang-od is truly the last expert to keep this ancient art alive
And although she is passing on her knowledge to her two grandnieces,
Kalinga tattoos are a critically endangered tradition that need your
support to stay alive before vanishing for eternity.
Help and honor the Kalinga’s identity and ancestral past
by sailing with us as we venture to save dying traditions across the globe.
